TURKPA delegation participated in the IPU Global Conference of Women Parliamentarians

On 2–4 June 2026, the TURKPA delegation, comprising Prof. Dr. Filiz Kılıç, Member of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye and Member of the TURKPA Commission on Legal Affairs and International Relations, Mr. Kürşad Melih Sarıarslan, Secretary of the TURKPA Delegation at the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, and Ms. Aynura Abutalibova, Secretary of the Commission and Executive Secretary of the TURKPA Women Parliamentarians Group, participated in the IPU Global Conference of Women Parliamentarians (GCWP), organized in cooperation with the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia under the theme “Advancing Parity: Breaking the Barriers of Gender Stereotypes and Negative Social Norms” in Belgrade, Republic of Serbia.

The programme featured an opening session and seven thematic sessions focusing on advancing gender parity, addressing stereotypes and negative social norms, promoting women’s political participation, strengthening gender-sensitive governance, and combating discrimination, violence and disinformation. Discussions were led by parliamentarians, government officials and representatives of international organizations.

On 3 June 2026, during Session 4 entitled “Challenging Online Stereotypes, Violence and Disinformation against Women in Politics”, chaired by Mr. Edin Djerlek, Deputy President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr. Filiz Kılıç delivered a speech

highlighting the common challenges faced by women across TURKPA region, particularly gender stereotypes and negative social norms. She also put emphasis on the role of the TURKPA Women Parliamentarians Group and called for closer cooperation in promoting women’s empowerment and increasing women’s participation in political life.

On the sidelines of the Conference, the TURKPA delegation held a number of brief exchanges and informal meetings with representatives of parliamentary delegations and took part in protocol events and commemorative photo sessions.

The delegation also participated in the cultural programme organized by the host parliament.
